Write Stuff : Wishlist

Write Stuff : Wishlist

On last week’s inaugural Write Stuff, we discussed celebrating your Inner Princess.  Thanks to the lovely ladies who joined in the fun.  Good to know I’m not the only princess in town!

This week’s Write Stuff theme is “Wishlist”.  I’d love to hear all about what’s on your wishlist!

I’m going to take it for granted that we all wish for an end to world hunger, an immediate cessation of all war resulting in world peace and, let’s be honest here, thinner thighs.  (With thanks to Bridget Jones.)

I’d really like to know what lovely things are on your wishlist.  Do you have a hankering for a handbag?  Are you longing for a luxury label?  Will your life be complete once you have located the perfect shade of red lipstick?

Just quietly, you’d be helping me out, girls.  I need some inspiration for my own wishlist, with my birthday coming up in August.  We start preparing early for Birthday Festivals around here!

I had three things on my wishlist recently – ankle boots, an every day nude lipstick and products for the perfect DIY mani.

Someone is very happy with her new boots!

I wanted ankle boots for work and play that are comfortable yet chic with a walkable heel, had to be leather, maybe black, but not made of suede, not hideously expensive and don’t give me sausage legs.  That’s a lot to ask from a shoe!

I finally found boot nirvana at Seed Femme.  Black, with a comfortable block heel, complete with zipper tassels.  Even better, they were on sale with an extra 20% off.  I luff them!

Face of Australia Lychee Crush lippy (wrinkles and tired eyes model’s own)

Next on my wanted list was a lipstick.  I wanted a shiny but not glossy, pink but not lolly, nude but not brown lipstick that also was moisturising and lasted.  The lipstick you wear when you’re not wearing lipstick – you know what I mean!  Rosemary from Lashes and Lattes and Melinda from Shop Me Chic have been telling me for a while that Face of Australia was worth a look, particularly the Lychee Crush lipstick.  I have to admit, I checked it out.  Twice.  But I thought it was too pale for me.  So glad I finally bit the bullet and bought it, because it’s perfect!  I adore that it even has that old school lipstick scent and flavour.

OPI’s Pirouette Your Whistle glitter over Care to Danse? lavender. Cheesegrater scar model’s own.

Finally, on my wishlist was perfect nails.  Since that is never going to happen for me, the next best thing was the perfect DIY home manicure.  I’m fed up with spending money on manicures that chip within hours and leave me with cut cuticles (I hate that).  Sonia posted Happy Hands on the fab Shop Me Chic and Tamsin posted the excellent Paint Your Nails, which I’ve renamed the Mani-festo.  See what I did there?

Following this excellent advice, I bought myself an OPI buffing block and actually learnt how to use it properly.  I bought OPI Chip Skip – dear gods, this stuff is so good they ought to bottle it!  Oh wait …

OPI New York City Ballet Mini Collection nail polish – image from johnlewis.com

I treated myself to the prettiest selection of New York City Ballet nail polish and I gave myself the perfect DIY mani.  Yes, I did.  Couldn’t stop looking at my nails!

It lasted.  And then lasted a bit more.  The first signs of chipping were on Friday, which is amaze balls considering I completed the manicure the previous Saturday.  I think if I’d remembered topcoat (oops, rookie mistake), it might have even lasted a whole week.  Unheard of for me and my very weak nails.

Burberry London – leather-trimmed gabardine trench coat from net-a-porter.com

So, apart from the obvious things like fifteen hundred dollars worth of Burberry trench goodness, a Cartier Tank watch and a vintage Mercedes convertible, my wishlist is surprisingly bereft, empty and in need of inspiration.

I’d absolutely love to steal some inspiration from your wishlists!

If you’d like to link up with me on this week’s Write Stuff, please click on the inLinkz linky below and share your wishlists with me!

Lately I am obsessed with the perfect boots and the perfect jeans. I went on the hunt last weekend and came up with nothing but a bruised ego (it seems both my tummy and my calves have somehow grown a little recently!). *sigh*

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Yeah, mine have an unfortunate habit of doing that too! PMT, chronic oedema, too much chocolate …

I splurged and treated myself to some NYDJ. Not cheap but they really are quite good. Another good tip for jeans is to buy skinnies one or two sizes too big and belt them in. You get a nice straight leg that’s not too tight. I thought I was a genius coming up with this, until I later read it in a Maggie Alderson column!

My favourite boots have come from Seed Femme lately – I’ve even managed to get them on sale (thank goodness!) Have you checked them out?

      • http://octaviaandvicky.com/ Kylie

I haven’t tried Seed Femme. I look online occassionally but usually too pricey. I’ll have to keep an eye out for a good sale. NNB2012 is sapping my budget big time this month!

        • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

That’s why I only ever buy Seed on sale! X

hmmm a wish list you say… gosh I just don’t know, l have to go to a wedding in July and apparently make up is required so I guess that needs to be on some sort of list some where :) Other than that I can’t really think of anything, clearly a sign I have to much junk!

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

That’s a good place to be in! I have too much junk and still have an endless wish list! :) At the risk of shameless self promotion, check out my “how to” posts regarding makeup on bbeingcool.com if you need some help! :)

  • Tam

Ooh, found you via FYBF and LOVE this meme! I will be linking up sometime soon :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Hello there, nice to meet you! I’d love to host you soon. Looking forward to it! :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

So you did, and might I add that you have excellent taste? :)

  • Grace

I love OPI. Just got my nails done yesterday with “Royal Rajah Ruby” Lurve :)
Love your cheese grater scars. Gives it a personal touch :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Well, they’re certainly unique and one of a kind. I think they call that customised or couture? ;)

PS – I just Googled that colour – deliciously decadent! :)

I wish someone would pick up the leaves from my front lawn, now that they have finished falling. Someone other than me, that is.

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

That’s a good thing to have on your wishlist. Would you mind awfully flick passing that person to me, once they’re finished at your house? We have a tiny pocket handkerchief lawn and I think a pile of leaves on it makes it look even smaller!

Love the lippy, saw the pic on facebook and meant to comment, suits you!
Tell me more about ‘write stuff’ l wanted to join in the princess one, but got the wrong end of the stick and thought that was for last Monday!

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Ooh, thank you! All credit to Rosemary at http://www.lashesandlattes.com for recommending it. Not often you get change from a tenner for a beauty product!

Now Write Stuff is a blog hop that I pop up every Monday, but it’s open for a whole week. Every week, I pop up a new prompt for bloggers to interpret how they wish. I’ve got a linky up so we can share the fun.

I’d love to host you, young lady! :)

  • http://www.redcliffestyle.com/ Rachel from Redcliffe Style

That lipstick is the perfect colour. I’m definitely going to hunt it down. Thanks for doing all the legwork :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

It’s pretty awesome. If you want a bit more colour, it goes really well over a bit of lip pencil too. Get thee to a Priceline or Target soon. :)

  • cathy camera

My birthday is in August too :) Just thought I’d share that first up!
Hmmmm…my wishlist is a bit empty as well…I need a whole new wardrobe (not kidding, my clothes are old and bland), I need a new everyday handbag and would love a blog make-over :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

One of my girlfriends told me my blog design was like a glamorous scrapbook. I’m going to take that as a compliment! :) I would love a proper logo though.

I’m actually really liking some of the cute designs at Forever New for handbags. Cheap enough that you can use them everyday but so pretty!

Now, I’m not sponsored by them (I wish!) but I’m absolutely loving Sussan at the moment for cheap and cheerful wardrobe updates.

I don’t really have a wish list. Should I have one? If I did I still wouldn’t know what to have on it.

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Of course you don’t need one. Maybe you have world peace and end of world hunger on yours? I’m kinda taking it as a given that those are on mine!

It’s just like window shopping really!

    Hey Kim,

I saw your #writestuff campaign on Twitter and got excited about it. After seeing last weeks topic, celebrating your “inner princess”, I wonder if I’m the right demographic for your blog. I don’t think many 27 year old men think about their inner princesses; but a wishlist I have :) .

#1: Banksy graffiti in my office; since I don’t know the guy, I’ll settle for Wall and Peace (http://www.amazon.com/Wall-Piece-Banksy/dp/1844137864). I’m an Art and English teacher, and I love the style and social protest behind Banksy. And who doesn’t love a mystery?

#2: My wife wants a tablet, therefore, I want a tablet. My worship pastor frequently says, “happy wife, happy life”. Michael Norton has a great TED talk about giving away your money and resources to achieve happiness. I think some guy named Jesus had the same idea, but I’d like to see other’s happy–especially her. So add that to my wishlist. http://www.ted.com/talks/michael_norton_how_to_buy_happiness.html

#3: I’m from Kitchener, a small metropolis 1h south of Toronto. One of my favourite bands, Great Big Sea, just played a fundraiser at a fancy spa. Very private and intimate, and $1000 tickets. You can understand why we didn’t go, but tickets to one of their concerts would be nice.

There it is. All the wants and none of the needs from a man. Friviloty can be unisex ;)

Ah, I think you might be my first male reader who is not related to me and therefore obligated to read my blog! I adore Banksy’s work, and the mystery adds so much to it. Hapy wife, happy life indeed. Couldn’t agree more (as a much loved wife myself!). Phew, $1000 tickets is a big ask for your favourite band. I hope you get your tickets! And by the way, I know quite a few men who nurture thir inner princesses – manly men at that! ;)

  • http://twitter.com/lollicious Lauren Greenlees

Your totally amazeballs lady. Love you in Lychee crush, your smokin ankle boots and cute pink mani. Your so adorable.. x

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Oh, Miss Lauren! Thank you very much! CONGRATULATIONS on the new job too! :)

  • http://twitter.com/LatherRinseRpt Michaela

Oh I covet those boots. Wonder if Seed makes them in my size?
My wish list is huge and includes the perfect pair of jeans (high-waisted (as in they cover my hips), v dark blue or black, straight long legs), a long-line fitted blazer, all the shoes and a trillion things from Sephora. Hoping to get them all next month in Hawaii *crosses fingers, toes and nose*

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

I shall cross everything for you too. I think the boots go up to a 41. I wear between a 39-40 depending on the brand and I’m wearing a 39 in these. Worth trying on!

Have super kawaii fun in Hawaii!

  • teganiasthoughts

I love this!! I have a birthday coming up (in about two months, but still) so I shall have to start writing my wish list for that!)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Mine is just under two months away but hello! Always better to be prepared! :)
