Thankful Thursday : Unexpected Day Off

Thankful Thursday

I love school holidays.  Yes, I do.  I really love them.  I have the world’s most charming eight year old boy, who is truly delightful company, and I relish our special Mama-Boyo days.  I have an amazing job that enables me to work two long days instead of my usual four school hours short days during school holidays.

However, due to a scheduling snafu, I find myself with that most delightful of days, an unexpected day off.  Boyo has gone for a day of Superhero-themed vacation care, the Welshman is busy beavering away at the office, and I’m masquerading as a lady of leisure.  Oh, yes I am!

So far, I’ve done my best Yummy Mummy impersonation by wearing exercise gear to run my errands.  I’ve done my first Pilates session in 5 months, after a hellish winter of chronic illness left me unable to do pretty much anything.  I’ve popped into Rozelle Red Cross where I bought myself some gorgeous Jones the Bootmaker yellow leather peeptoe heels for an enormous $9.95.  I’ve treated myself to the world’s most delicious hot chocolate from the Adriano Zumbo Lab, where all the magic happens.  Well, the most delicious hot chocolate now that Sucre Balmain have closed down and stopped peddling their Azetc crack chilli hot chocolate, that is.  I’ve located, bought and installed 20 very heavy kilograms of polished jade pebbles in my cacti garden, in an effort to dissuade the neighbourhood cats from using it as a potty.  I’ve had two showers before midday.  Positively decadent!

Several loads of laundry have been done, sheets have been changed, and a wardrobe reorganisation is in progress.  Until I just started to bore myself and had to have a little break.  As you do.  I’m considering giving myself a manicure … but I might be too busy.

As I write this, I’m cosily ensconced on the sofa catching up on the three episodes of Rake I haven’t yet managed to watch, blogging and eating M&Ms.  Even ladies of leisure manage to multitask, don’t you know.

Ah, a delightful day off is always a lovely treat.  But an unexpected day off is a treat beyond compare.  Is there anything more luxurious, more glamorous, more utterly and gorgeously fabulous than an unexpected day off?

This Thursday, I’m thankful for time.  Precious time.  Time to myself.  Time to do everything and nothing all at once.  What are you thankful for?

Oh how I do love an accidental day off. Actually, I love any day off. Especially one that ends up being totally productive, so you feel like you achieved a lot, but still relaxing enough to feel like you did indeed have a day off!

My only issue is that my poor neglected abs are crying after my Pilates session, two days later!

I LOVE these kinds of days! I had one last week and it was awesome. Got so much done, including a 40 minute walk along the beach, just me and my music! It was fantastic!
