Kimba Likes Keeping It Real Policy

KimbaLikesButton125-1

There’s been a lot of discussion and kerfuffle going on recently about sponsored posts, gifted items, brand-blogger relationships and the interaction with readers, followers and likers.  It’s perfectly understandable – this is fairly new territory for the Antipodean blogosphere and companies, with more and more players from both sides entering the fray every day.  I’m very new to this concept myself.

How to apply mascara

How to apply mascara

Oh, how I love mascara!  You can get away without it, especially with freshly tinted lashes and a good quality lash curler, but honestly, why would you want to?  Nothing says rock chick or glamour diva or gorgeous girl as much as lashings of mascara does!

Write Stuff : What do you eat for breakfast?

Write Stuff : What do you eat for breakfast?

The Write Stuff topic for this week’s blog hop is “What do you eat for breakfast?“.

After spending a fabulous weekend away with friends-who-are-like-family, celebrating a midwinter Xmas in July, it has come to my attention that what I eat for breakfast may not fit the norms of breakfast food.  This gave me food for thought (see what I did there?  Entirely intentional and naff to boot.) and started me thinking about what people eat for breakfast.

Kimba Likes to Say : The Sequel

Kimba Likes to Say : The Sequel

As requested by Sonia who blogs and tweets as She’s Sonic, as well as co-edits the fab Shop Me Chic, I posted the Kimba Likes To Say Lexicon last week.

It was brought to my attention that I may have missed a few key entries, so here’s a sequel.

Puppycat

A small fluffy animal, usually canine or feline.

Perhaps not even a puppy nor a kitten.

But small and undeniably cute.

Frontie

When you don’t have time for a full shower, so you just have a frontie, ie, leap in and just wash your front.

Borrowed from my BFF, Kirsten.  Thanks, babe!

Bubba Chops

Boyo’s nickname, inspired by his beautiful baby cheeks.

Oh, the cheeks!

Psycho Week

The week in a lady’s cycle when she may have a sense of humour fail, experience bloating and pain, lose her buffer zone and feel a little bit stabby.

Approach on caution this week.  If you mention that it may be Psycho Week, be prepared this may not be received well.  See stabby.

Fandango

Kimba for lady garden, beavoir, Beaver Las Vegas, pink bits, lala … pick your own euphemism.

Polly Pissy Pants

Borrowed from Tiff and Michael.  Describes a drunken person.

“She was gone.  Totally Polly Pissy Pants!”

Also known as PPP.

La la love it!

For those times when you don’t just like something, you la la love it!

BBQ chicks

After a night out in the city, where we were amazed by the hordes of young women wearing belts as skirts, I coined this phrase “BBQ chicks”.

Describes young women who ignore one of the cardinal rules of fashion – display cleavage or legs, not both – because they are uniformly brown like a supermarket barbecue chook with vast amounts of breast and thigh.

Smile and Nod

A coping strategy for dealing with people and / or situations that you’re not entirely comfortable with.  Just keep smiling and nodding, smiling and nodding.

Very useful in extended family situations.

Kimba Likes to Say

Have you met Sonia, who blogs and tweets as She’s Sonic?  She’s a tweetheart and this post is at her special request.

Welcome to the
Kimba Likes Catchphrase Lexicon!

Kia Kaha

Kia Kaha is Maori for “Be strong”.

Since the Christchurch earthquakes, this phrase has taken on a special poignancy as the staunch and stoic character of Cantabrians has been well and truly put to the test.

Fill your boots

The etymology of Fill Your Boots comes from pirate days when they would literally fill their boots with booty (see what I did there?) to carry as much loot as possible.

Nowadays, it means “be my guest” and “get stuck in”.

“Can I have a piece of cake, please?”

“Mate – fill your boots!”

That really rips my nightie

I borrowed this one from the lovely Melinda, one of my Gorgeous Girls.

It is a much more ladylike way of saying “Well, that pisses me off!”

Always bet on Black

I am a passionate supporter of the All Blacks, New Zealand’s national rugby team.

Clearly, one should always bet on Black!

It was a looooong time between drinks, baby.

O for Awesome

In 1992, David Tua, a former New Zealand professional heavyweight boxer, was on Wheel of Fortune.  The story goes that he asked for an “O for Awesome” and thus, a legend was born!

It’s entirely possible he actually said “O for Olsen” (a family friend) or O for Ocean.  But let’s not let that get in the way of an O for Awesome tale!

Retro Cute

I’m a bit of a sucker for some vintage glamour and some retro cute works for me too.

It describes vintage with a modern twist to a tee.

How retro cute is this toaster?

Gorgeous Girls

The Gorgeous  Girls are my besties.

I luff them very much.

Sweet as

Excellent Kiwi slang and very flexible in its usage.

You can use it instead of “great”, as in “My night out was sweet as”.

It can also be used in place of “yes please”.

“Want a beer, bro?”

“Sweet as!”

Believed to be descended from “good as gold” and frequently seen in the company of “bro”.

Chocolate Fish Award

New Zealanders love chocolate covered marshmallow.  Especially the good old Chocolate Fish!

The Chocolate Fish Award* is given to people who have made an extra special effort and made me particularly happy.

Note, this is as frequently sarcastic as it is sweet – but always genuine!

* Actual chocolate fish not awarded.  Very hard to get hold of, and I’m not good at sharing my chocolate covered marshmallow treats!

Husbeyond

This is Kimba for “husband”.  The Welshman is far and beyond the usual expectations of a husband, so he’s my “husbeyond”.  I’m a very lucky girl.  x
