Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 : The Preparation

Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012 : The Preparation

As a newbie blogger, I very excitedly booked an early bird ticket to Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012.  This has even prompted me to refer to myself as a blogger!

I’ve studied the schedule, ordered business cards, planned which breakout sessions I’ll attend, worked out who I’d love to stalk meet, and have organised the day off from my family.  I must remember to book my chauffeur ask nicely if they’ll drop me off.

I’m trying to pretend that I’m not nervous or apprehensive.  I believe this is called fake it until you make it.  Pretty much how I got through all my parenting endeavours so far.  As you do.

Now, for the really important stuff – what am I going to wear?!

I’m going for comfort and style, not to mention warmth.  I’m really hoping this outfit ticks those boxes!

I’m teaming the new loves of my life, my Seed Femme zip up ankle boots, with these lovely Sussan printed pants.  They combine style with comfort and are oh so flattering!  I’m going to add a couple of wardrobe staples – my Sussan hi lo cobalt knit and mustard blazer.  The outfit will be completed with my BFF bag – my Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q backpack in Dirty Martini.  Just the name of the colour works for me!

I may have also treated myself to a new travel iPad case.  It has a purse section, and another section with pockets for my business cards, notebook and other flotsam and jetsam.

Forever New Kami tablet case

I’ve been reading lots of blogs from past blog conference attendees on what, where, how, why and I’d love to read more.  If you’ve come across a fabulous blog post that you really enjoyed, or perhaps you’ve written one yourself, please hook me up in the comments below, or tweet me a link!

Are you attending Nuffnang Blogopolis 2012?  Are you a newbie like me, or a seasoned professional?  Look forward to saying hi!

Hi Kimba, I was at Blogopolis (my first EVER conference) and briefly met you during the day!
I really enjoyed it, learned heaps and want to go to another one, although I need to just smile and introduce myself to more people next time and not let the nerves get to me so much. Hope to meet you again! x

Hi there! Wasn’t it fabulous! I really feel like I stuffed my brain so full of new information that I need a week to process it all! :) Bring on the next one! :)

  • Lisa @ giving back girl

Oh gawd I was thinking a grey black combo, think I need to find me some colour! It’s my first official bloggy anything and I’m excited but am worried I’ll latch on to my face bloggers and become their unexpected BFF for the day! At least we can talk nz stuff together! Ps I’m guessing those gorgeous cards weren’t from vista print free templates like my rush order! See you Saturday :-)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Hey, fellow Kiwi girl! I ordered my cards a little while ago now (I think because it was a long weekend and I had spare time), but they were from the Vistaprint free templates! Not entirely happy with the print quality but very happy with the template. See you on Saturday.

As for colour, if you’re comfortable and happy and “you” wearing a chic grey and black combo, then wear a grey and black combo. :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Do you know, when I was Googling images of that blue jumper, your picture popped up! I’m so excited that you’re excited about meeting me – can’t wait to say hi! You’ve such a lovely warm personality that shines through that I do feel like I know you already too. x

    great cards and outfit!

I am in the same boat, while I have been blogging for a while, I am new to blog networking, this will be my second conference – it’s actually really fun and interesting, I enjoyed my first one a lot.

    come & say hello!

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Why, thank you! Just thought of another benefit of blogging my outfit is that now I can’t change my mind – this may save me hours! :) . Look forward to saying hello! :)

I am so jealous, I would love to go to. I would probably be too nervous and stay in the hotel. I love the outfit and bag. Rachel x

Edit: Actually, I am just looking at booking a ticket to go, now I am freaking out.

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

See, I never would have thought you would be the nervous type! I would absolutely love to meet you. I hope you manage to make it! Check the hashtag #NNB2012 because there are a couple of people wanting to sell their tickets. I hope you make it! :)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

      I’m so thrilled you’re coming! :)

  • http://tamsinhowse.com/blog/ Tamsin Howse

I am still trying to figure out the logistics of whether or not I’m able to go! I have KiKi & Tea business cards, although not Confessions of an Undomestic Goddess ones. I think the hardest part (assuming I can go) will be selecting an outfit…

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

You can’t go wrong with classic. What about your Country Road coloured jeans, boots, a long sleeve top and don’t you have a waterfall oversized cardigan? Whack on some accessories and you’re good to go! :) You can get cards printed in a week, babe!

      • http://tamsinhowse.com/blog/ Tamsin Howse

You know my wardrobe and style too well! I wore that exact outfit yesterday. :P Unfortunately it seems I can’t go, bummed but you can tell me ALL about it when we have our lunch. xx

        • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Ha! That’s funny about your outfit! Sad you can’t make it but will look forward to our lunch :)

I’m a Conference virgin! Will be looking for friendly faces. Hope to say hello :-)

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

I’m popping my cherry too! I am happy to say hello – just look out for the girl in the mad pants! :)

  • http://allconsuming.com.au/ allconsuming

Dude I will be there. Am now a seasoned conference goer (SO.MUCH.FUN) but my first time chairing a panel. Can’t wait! Please track me down and say hi in real life, yeah?

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Dude, you’re definitely on my “Must Stalk” list! :) Which panel are you chairing? You know you’re going to kick arse, right?!

  • http://twitter.com/beccibird Becci Swan

My first conference was DPCON12 and even though I enjoyed myself and met some great people, I did have a moment of freaking out. But I got over it and got back out there. You’ll have a great experience and I can’t wait to meet you (love your style).

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Thank you very much! Look forward to saying hi too! :)

  • http://twitter.com/CoTaaB Cup of Tea & a Blog

Wowwee your cards look great! love the outfit too. I’m planning a nice top, blazer jeans and my NEW SHOES! I’m excited and nervous. Will be nice to have a day to do something for myself, but will be worried about how hubby is coping with the girls on his own (will be the longest he’s had them on his own!). Looking forward to meeting you! x

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Thanks, I was really pleased with them! Do wish I’d organised a proper logo though, but really, do I need a logo?! Remember to wear them in a bit first (or pack plasters!).

I’m sure their dad will be fine – you might get more days to yourself! :)

  • http://twitter.com/tammilborn Around Here

I’m not going to NNB12, but the Problogger event in October will be my first blogging conference and I’m TERRIFIED! What to wear, what to bring, who to talk to, what to say – eek! I’ll be interested to hear about how you go – good luck!

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

I think my problem is usually what NOT to say! Often just open my mouth to change feet! Let’s put our shoulders back, tummies in and smile, smile, smile. Fake it til we make it! :) I’m very excited about it and I hope to get a lot out of it. I’m particularly interested in finding out how the hell to work my SEO thingummy! :)

So many people I’d love to meet too :)

  • http://twitter.com/PennyWhitehouse A Mum in the Wild

It’s a little nerve-racking and overwhelming going to your first blog conference. I went to my first one at the DP conference. I wan’t as prepared as you were though so I’m very impressed. I hope you have a blast. Come back and share all your new-found blogging knowledge with us!

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

Oh, thanks! I’m hoping to have a blast too, and will certainly post from my newbie perspective. :)

  • bbeingcool

Hey, I am a newbie too! I have ordered my business cards and made lots of lists. I will be leaving Mr Cool with three children, he will be taking them to the Gold Coast for the Marathon Weekend, where Miss A will be running the 2k and he will be running the half marathon- as you do – poor man!

My friend Tonya and I are staying at the Sofitel! Very excited!
I have just worked out my outfit – just have to decide whether to wear the leopard print tights or the marigold ones…
I am hoping to not look like a country hick – that would be very UN-cool…
Really hoping to bump into you!

    B

    • http://kimbalikes.com Kim-Marie Williams

I will make a point of stalking you, Miss B!

    • http://www.redcliffestyle.com/ Rachel from Redcliffe Style

      I’m at the Sofitel too.
